I Built a Firefox Extension to Help Me Stop Doomscrolling
Let’s be honest: most social media platforms aren’t designed to help us get things done.
How many times have you opened YouTube just to watch a quick 5-minute coding tutorial, only to realize 40 minutes later that you’re watching video essays about obscure video game lore? Or hopped onto Instagram to reply to a quick message, only to get sucked into a 20-minute Reel spiral?

It’s not just a lack of willpower. These sites are literally engineered to pull us in and keep us there.
Instead of completely blocking these sites (because let’s face it, we actually need them for work, learning, or quick communication), I wanted a way to just strip out the noise. So, I built a lightweight Firefox extension called More Focus. What It Actually Does
Instead of an all-or-nothing site blocker, More Focus gives you a clean pop-up menu with simple toggles. You pick and choose exactly what parts of YouTube and Instagram you want to see—and what you want gone. 📺 Taming YouTube
Nuke the Homepage Feed: Open YouTube to a clean page so you only see what you explicitly search for.
Search-Only Mode: Automatically skips the home feed clutter entirely.
Hide Recommendations & Comments: Watch the video you came for without getting drawn into related video rabbit holes or toxic comment sections.
Block Shorts: Keep short-form video loops off your desktop screen completely.
Auto Fullscreen & Hide Badges: Less visual clutter, fewer red dots begging for your attention.
📸 Cleaning Up Instagram
Hide Reels & Stories: Block the main infinite-scroll engines on the platform.
Hide Reels in Chat: Stops you from getting distracted when someone sends a Reel in your DMs.
Hide the Explore Tab: Get rid of the algorithmic discovery trap.
Hide Like Counts: Takes away the vanity metric pressure and makes the platform feel like a simple tool again.
